Celebrate the rising of Matariki with this fun kite!

Kites play an important part in Maori culture, and traditionally were flown to signify the start of Matariki. The Māori kite is called manu tukutuku or manu aute – manu translates as either kite or bird. Another word for kites is pākau, meaning the bird wing.*

In your kit you’ll receive a printable that has been designed by artist Huia Hamon (Ngāti Porou) that you can trace onto the kite paper and decorate however you wish!

Kit includes:

  • 4 x wood skewers
  • Baking paper
  • 8 feathers
  • 1 meter of twine (per kite)

You will need:

  • Paint or felt tip pens (optional)

Made in Christchurch.

Finished size is 13cm x 13 wide
